National Lottery support Cheshire Young Carers

National Lottery has awarded a grant to cover three years of additional support to children who are young carers. Our aim is to support even more young carers across Cheshire by expanding our education support programme and launching more opportunities for respite sessions and residential experiences.
Cheshire Young Carers provide a full range of support options that start with their school’s programme that helps schools identify pupils who are young carers, provides an assessment tool to measure the impact of the caring role on potential education performance and then provides a route into further support. Many young carers then take advantage of the respite opportunities on offer including residential experiences. All of this work is supported by a small, dedicated welfare team who provide advice and support when required.
There are estimated to be c40,000 children who are young carers in Cheshire with nearly 20,000 providing high levels of care.
