It’s been a special year for Cheshire Young Carers with several awards recognising the services we provide to children in Cheshire who are young carers.
Earlier in the year we became The Cheshire Life Charity of the Year, and this was closely followed by becoming Inspirational Youth Organisation/Charity of the Year 2024 awarded by The Cheshire & Warrington Pledge. Both awards recognise the impact that our services have on young carers, particularly the opportunities for respite.
In early December at a ceremony in Ellesmere Port Tom Homes received an award as inspirational young carer at an event organised by Youth Fed. The Young Carer Award celebrates a young person who provides selfless care and support to a family member or friend with a disability, illness, or other challenges, balancing their own life with care giving responsibilities. Tom has attended our respite sessions for a number of years and has recently taken on the role as a young leader supporting other young carers.
There are estimated to be c40,000 children who are young carers in Cheshire with nearly 20,000 providing high levels of care.
