Celebration Evening by Cheshire Young Carers

THE CEREMONY

This year, we were proud to host the second Cheshire Young Carers School Awards Ceremony, celebrating the outstanding commitment of schools across Cheshire in supporting young carers. The event also marked a special milestone as we recognised young people who successfully completed our Young Leaders Programme.

Held at the beautiful Courtyard Complex at Eaton Park, the ceremony brought together schools, young carers, families, and supporters from across Cheshire for an inspiring evening of celebration and recognition. We were honoured to welcome His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, Lady Redmond MBE CStJ, who presented the awards and helped acknowledge the incredible work being carried out within school communities to identify, support and empower young carers.

A highlight of the event was a moving performance by 2Engage of The Mask Inside My Head. Inspired by the real-life experiences of young carers, the production explored the challenges many young people face as they balance caring responsibilities alongside school, friendships, hobbies and their own wellbeing. Through powerful storytelling and thought-provoking performances, the play highlighted the often hidden pressures young carers experience and the importance of understanding, recognition and support.

The ceremony provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of schools and young carers alike, while celebrating the positive impact that collaboration, understanding and support can have on the lives of young carers.

CHESHIRE YOUNG CARERS SCHOOL AWARD

The Cheshire Young Carers School Award recognises schools that are committed to identifying, understanding and supporting young carers within their communities. Developed in partnership with young carers, the programme provides a framework for schools to strengthen their support and raise awareness of the unique challenges young carers may face.

Schools can achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold accreditation, with each level reflecting a growing commitment to creating an inclusive environment where young carers feel recognised, valued and supported. Progress is assessed by Cheshire Young Carers staff through a range of evidence, including policies, initiatives and demonstrated impact on young carers’ experiences and outcomes.

We are incredibly proud that this year’s ceremony saw the presentation of 33 Bronze, 21 Silver and 19 Gold Cheshire Young Carers School Awards, celebrating schools that are making a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of young carers.

CHESHIRE YOUNG CARERS YOUNG LEADER AWARD

The Young Leaders Project empowers young carers to develop confidence, leadership skills and resilience, enabling them to play an active role within their schools, communities and beyond. Through workshops, teamwork and practical challenges, participants build self-belief, strengthen communication skills and develop a sense of purpose.

This year, we were proud to celebrate 16 young carers who successfully completed the programme. The Young Leaders Award recognises the dedication, determination and personal growth demonstrated by each participant, as well as the valuable contribution they make as advocates, role models and leaders within their communities.
