What we do
School Holiday Programmes
For most, the school holidays are a time to get some well-deserved rest. However for a young carer, this is often the most stressful time, as school provides a chance to see friends and is a positive environment. They may feel more relaxed here than in their own home. To support these young people, CYC deliver programmes with plenty of activities during these periods, to get the young people out of the home and interacting with others.
Residential Trips
Young carers are often provided with the opportunity to spend a few days away from the home. Residential trips are a great opportunity for the young people to build some strong friendships, grow in confidence and independence, and also build on skills such as leadership and communication.
Education
CYC provide a comprehensive support programme for primary and secondary academies, schools and colleges in order to raise awareness and promote the early identification of young carers in education. CYC works collaboratively with its education centre partners to improve attendance, achievement and the overall educational experiences for young carers.
Regular Group Sessions
Group respite sessions provide the young carers with a welcome break from their caring role. Here, they are given the chance to be a child again, leaving all their worries at the door. These sessions promote physical and mental health and wellbeing, with enrichment programmes that provide them with valuable skills they will use to reach their full potential.
Young Carers Needs Assessment
Cheshire Young Carers assesses every young carer to establish their needs and offer the relevant level of support. This may range from 1-1 intervention work, to supporting the family via the multi-agency process.
