Cheshire Young Carers Awarded Young Carers Contract

Cheshire West & Chester Council have awarded a 15-month contract to Cheshire Young Carers to provide specialist support service to children who are young carers. The contract is designed to support young carers in the Cheshire West & Chester area who need additional support to reach their full potential.

Graham Phillips, CEO at Cheshire Young Carers said, “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract that will help us provide additional specialist support to young carers with specific challenges in their lives. Currently we support nearly 900 young carers who don’t qualify for this specialist support including extensive school holiday respite programmes, funded by generous donors.”

Cheshire Young Carers operates services across Cheshire that focus on three key areas of support identified by young carers themselves. Firstly, they work with schools to help support pupils who are young carers to gain maximum benefit from education and to raise the profile of young carers amongst other children. Then they offer a range of respite opportunities to give young carers a break from their caring roles with the opportunity to build trusted friendship groups. Thirdly they provide specialist support for those children significantly impacted by their caring roles with a plan to support them through challenging times.

A Council spokesperson commented, “We are excited at the opportunity to work with Cheshire Young Carers to provide vital specialist help to some of the most vulnerable children in our area. They have an experienced team who already deliver support to a significant number of children who are young carers, and this contract will help the local authority in conjunction with other partners to provide life enhancing support to young carers in our area.”
