Fly Day

Fly Day

30th Jul 2018

On June 8th 2018, we took to the skies! 16 young carers accompanied by family members joined us at Hawarden airport for the National Fly Kids Day.

This was all thanks to charity Aviation Without Borders and the Hawarden Flying Association. 16 young carers, 6 siblings, 5 parents and 2 Cheshire Young Carers’ staff were all treated to the flying experience of a lifetime.

The staff on site ensured that everyone who wanted to fly, got the chance to. This included making arrangements for those with autism and those with accessibility requirements. We were also treated to sandwiches, fruit, cake and drinks. It was a memorable day for all included. We also got the chance to look around famous aircrafts on site, all with amazing history. The flight simulator was a particular favourite for the young carers who got to practice landing their own aircrafts!

We were also lucky to have 3 families of young carers at the Barton Aerodrome Site near Manchester. Fun was had by all down at this site too.

The feedback is fantastic, a huge thanks to Aviation Without Borders and the Hawarden Flying Association.

Family feedback: “The Fly Day was SO AMAZING! cannot thank the CYC team, the pilots, police helicopter staff and support staff enough for this fantastic opportunity for all my boys. Nothing was too much trouble, everyone did so much to make them feel special, and give them such happy memories. They learnt a lot. To have an event that the whole family could share in was fab. To see my 13year old autistic son go from being too scared to fly to going up and actually flying the plane- “thank you” doesn’t even begin to cover it.”

Queensberry AP: “We would just like to say a huge “thank you” to all the staff, volunteers and the pilots that gave up their time today for the @CYC_youngcarers aviation event. It was an amazing day for an amazing bunch of kids #youngcarers #CYC #cheshireyoungcarers #volunteers #QueensberryAP”
